Whilst this property was tired, it had wonderfully preserved period features and a solid structure. The client was keen to keep as many of these features as possible such as Victorian tiled floors, oak staircase and cornicing which gave us scope to source sympathetic materials from salavage yards and further afield.
The top floor, originally housing the staff, was only accessible through a back staircase so this was removed and the central staircase was carefully matched and extended. This was lovingly treated and varnished whilst new finials were carved, bringing the top floor seamlessly into the main house.
By removing one of the chimneys all the way up through the house, the kitchen and dining room were opened up for modern living. A full rewire and pipework allowed for high spec electrics, data cables and fast flowing showers with instant hot water on all floors.
Whilst the existing Victorian flooring was left in place in the front of the house, underfloor heating was installed throughout where new flooring was necessary. Along with a new roof and insulation throughout, this now has the climate control of a new home.
Extensive ground works, new swimming pool and landscaping allowed the client to open up a number of rooms onto the garden and bring more natural light into the house.
